I grew up with my full sibling, Timmy Lee Stafford (1966-2004), under the care of our paternal grandparents, Van Dow Stafford (1907-1992) and Ethel (Biggs) Stafford (1909-1983), in Gainesboro, TN. Despite our grandparents' limited resources, our paternal aunts and uncles treated us like their siblings and ensured we had memorable Christmases and birthdays every year. We often spent weekends and summers with them, which were some of my favorite times growing up. My fondest memories are from the years we lived in Franklin, KY, and our visits with our father, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Spending time with the elders of the family was particularly special, as we listened to their stories about their childhood and young adulthood and learned about our family history.
